Dr. Paweł Dudko (b. 1987) works with code, 3D printing, and blockchain to build systems that generate images, objects, and spatial installations. He holds a doctoral degree in arts from the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk (2018) and a degree in architecture from the Białystok University of Technology, where he was a researcher and lecturer from 2012 to 2022.
His work has been presented internationally, including solo exhibitions at Suburbs Gallery, Montreal (2025), and Ex-Machina, Baszta Gallery, Poland (2021). Group presentations include Sotheby’s, the Mark Rothko Art Center (Latvia), Digital Springboard by NEORT at TOKYO NODE, Tokyo (2025), and The Bitcoin Conference (Miami). He has received scholarships from the President of the City of Białystok (2015) and Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2020).
Artistic statement:
I write algorithms and build machines that produce images and objects — not through direct control, but through deliberate systems I set in motion and step back from. Code generates animations. A machine built from 3D-printer parts extrudes forms with no predetermined design. Urban-planning software produces objects that, placed in Petri dishes, read as biological colonies. Scripts read the Bitcoin blockchain directly: block timing, transaction activity, and the specific coin carrying the piece determine its form and growth.
Each time, something in the result outgrows the process that made it — that’s the moment I’m working for.
My background in architecture made me sensitive to context and scale before it made me sensitive to anything else; it’s part of why the question of scale — what counts as a room, a city, a colony — keeps returning across different media.
I keep returning to the same question: when a system does something it didn’t seem capable of, has it really escaped its own rules — or only revealed how much larger those rules were all along? I think of memory, culture, and perception the way I think of code: systems of rules too complex to take in all at once. My work keeps finding the moment one of them turns out to hold more than it seemed to — and, in that moment, stops feeling mechanical.
