Dr. Paweł Dudko (b. 1987) is an active creator in the area of interactive and generative art with the use of 3D printing, often on the verge of virtual and physical reality. Author of spatial installations, multimedia, photography, and scenography.
Paweł Dudko graduated in architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the Białystok University of Technology. In 2018, he obtained a doctoral degree in arts at the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. In the years 2012-22, he was a researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture of the Białystok University of Technology.
Artistic statement:
My artistic practice is driven by curiosity, experimentation and a fascination with natural phenomena, mathematical algorithms and man-made systems.
Working at the intersection of virtual and physical reality, I explore diverse media. I use code to create infinite animations, generative sculptures, and spatial experiences. I also materialize my digital creations with 3D printing. Architectural background and spatial practice made me sensitive to the meaning and value of the artwork’s context and scale. I look for solutions that challenge the perception of reality, exploring how these two realms intersect.
In my practice, I follow the process and the nature of the medium. Whether it’s algorithmic code, 3D printing, or spatial experience, I search for the most fundamental understanding and let the process guide me. Artwork that derives from a tight bond with the medium benefits from deeper interpretation and authenticity. I expand my understanding through the works of process-based, transcendental art masters such as Peter Zumthor, Richard Serra, James Turrell, Anish Kapoor and Mark Rothko.
Through interactive and generative art, I aim to evoke a sense of wonder and discovery. I try to create new realms that people can connect to on a very fundamental level. The language of simple forms and geometrical associations allows viewers to build a complex understanding on multiple levels.
